Ladies and gentleman, the gate has been crashed. =)
I'm proud to announce that today I won election to the State Resolutions Committee.
This morning when I arrived at the convention, I worked the sign-in line for my Senate District. I introduced myself to people I'd never met and passed out flyers explaining why I was running. I'll post a scan of my flier later on.
I ended up running against two other candidates, one of whom I know and respect as a fellow activist.
I was given a few moments to address the convention before the vote. I was so nervous, but somehow managed to sound coherent and garner a LOT of applause (well, at least that's what my husband tells me - honestly, I was so nervous I nearly blacked out - LOL).
I told my fellow delegates that I am tired of being defined by the Republican party, and that I felt that it was time for Democrats to redefine themselves and their values.
I won by a landslide (I'm 4-0 now), and now I have to be here at 8am tomorrow morning for our official committee meeting. Thank the gods for Red Bull.
In closing, I just want to reiterate to everyone that taking back your party is friggin' easy. As I told someone the other day on the DailyKos version of this thread, 90% of it is just showing up.
In addition to my victory, local grassroots activists won every single race in my Senate District. We're talking NEW OFFICEHOLDERS for everything except SDEC (State Democratic Executive Committee). It was brilliant. Now if we win the chair's race tomorrow night... oh man... it will be fabulous.
